11 simple ways to connect with Sun energy

Merry Summer Solstice to you! Today we celebrate the wheel's turning, the beginning of Cancer season, and the start of summer. In this post, I share eleven simple ways to connect to Solar energy throughout the year.

  1. Follow the movement of the sun! The sun gives life to the attributes of the sign it is in. And when it transits this part of our astrological chart, it may be where you feel most vital and alive. Right now, the Sun is in the sign of Cancer. You also have the sign of Cancer in your natal chart, so even if you do not have any personal planets or luminaries in Cancer, the part of your life that is in the sign of Cancer may get more energy or activation than usual. And that may be the case every time the Sun moves into a new sign throughout the year.

  2. Celebrate the seasons with the Solstices and the Equinoxes. In addition to the Sun changing signs, approximately every 30 days, our seasons change about every three months when the Sun moves into a cardinal sign. Spring begins at the vernal equinox when the Sun enters Aries. Summer begins on the longest day of the year when the Sun enters Cancer, also known as the summer solstice. Autumn begins on the first day of Libra season, coinciding with the autumnal equinox. And winter begins at the start of Capricorn season on the winter solstice, which marks the longest night.

  3. Wear jewelry made of gold or with ruby, garnet, or amber gemstones. Real gold is preferred, but even gold-plated or gold-colored metal will do in a pinch. It is all about the intention and the warm hues of the metal or precious stones.

  4. Learn about the astrological house and sign your sun is in and what season that highlights. What kind of modality does it have: cardinal, fixed, or mutable? What is the element of your sun sign: fire, earth, water, air? Does your Sun aspect or make a connection to any other planets?

  5. Meditate under the sun’s rays at different hours: sunrise for new beginnings, zenith for imbuing with energy, sunset for endings. Always be mindful of sunburn and use sunscreen.

  6. Wear yellow or orange on a Sunday (Sun’s Day) or anytime you need a boost of vitality.

  7. Read about your ancestral mythologies related to Sun and its associated deities; if unknown, check out the God Helios.

  8. Eat citrus!

  9. Learn about solar herbs and plants like St. John’s Wort, marigold, and rosemary, along with their uses and contraindications.

  10. Embody Solar Virtues such as Vitality, Confidence, Courage, Radiance, and Leadership.

  11. Study the meaning of The Sun in the Tarot, the card ruled by the Sun.

What would you add to the list? What are your favorite sun-related activities?
